Extraction of Geospatial Data and Feature Heights Using the Trimble MX9 Mobile Mapping System

The Trimble MX9 Mobile Mapping System is a modern vehicle-mounted device used to capture, process, extract and share high density point clouds and rich, immersive imagery to produce meaningful deliverables. In this project, an attempt is made to create a two-dimensional map of the Military Technological College (MTC) using the Trimble equipment. Along with creating the map, for extraction of a Digital Surface Model (DSM) and a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), the first and last returns from the point cloud are considered. For processing the raw data, Trimble Business Software (TBC) is used. For feature height determinations from point cloud data, ESRI ArcGIS Desktop v10.8 software is used. The output map and the vector data with attribute information is a good repository for MTC’s estate and facilities department to keep a track of all assets such as light poles, trees, buildings, road sign poles etc. to name a few within the campus. Mobile mapping can also assist road departments and authorities for determining cracks in the road surface.
