Extended Reality: Types and Applications
Oleksii Shatokhin, Andrius Dzedzickis, Milda Pečiulienė, Vytautas BučinskasThis review is dedicated to the fast developing area of robotic technology cohesion with extended reality techniques. This paper analyzes existing extended reality technologies, categorizing them as virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality. These technologies differ from each other based on resulting graphics and are similar in terms of hardware, software, and functional issues. The research methodology is shown in a separate section, which declares the depth of the research, used keywords, and criteria for paper selection. A brief classification of extended realty issues provides a systematic approach to these techniques and reveals their applications in robotics, placing the focus on mobile robotic technology. The term extended reality covers technologies of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, which are classified in this review. Each section of the reviewed field gives an original issue classification in a table format. Finally, the general outcome of the review is summarized in the discussion, and conclusions are drawn.
