C.C. Rodricks, K.A. Bindu, S. Pramod, C.A. DharamshawA study was undertaken to compare the relative expression of KIT-Ligand (KITLG) gene in Attappady Black (Non-prolific) and Malabari (prolific) goat breeds of Kerala. Six tissue samples from the ovaries and uteri of slaughtered animals were collected to find out the expression levels of KITLG. Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) was taken as a reference gene. The ovary of Attappady Black had a 0.84-fold lower expression of KITLG compared to Malabari, while the uterus of Attappady Black had 2.70-fold higher expression of KITLG gene than in Malabari. The expression of KITLG gene was down-regulated in the ovary of Malabari (0.72 fold) and Attapady Black (0.75 fold) compared to the uterus. In conclusion, no difference was observed between the expression levels of the KITLG gene in the ovary and uterus of both breeds.
