EXPLORING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ADIRE IN FASHION: PROMOTING YORUBA CULTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY

Adepeko, E.O., Adeoye, O.I.

Adire, a traditional Yoruba textile art form, holds immense cultural significance in Nigeria. Adire fabrics are some of the symbols of cultural heritage among the Yoruba people of Southwestern Nigeria. This paper explores how Adire has transcended its utilitarian purpose to become a symbol of Yoruba identity and heritage. Through the lens of photography, and how contemporary designers and artists incorporate Adire patterns and motifs into modern fashion. By promoting Adire, we contribute to the preservation and celebration of Yoruba culture. This study sheds light on the intersection of tradition, creativity, and cultural representation in the world of fashion using the theoretical approach.
