Exploring the Role of AI and VR in Building Workplace Culture: A Bibliometric Analysis

Niranchana Shri Viswanathan, Shashi Kant Gupta

This chapter examines how artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) can be leveraged to construct and enrich workplace culture. The study investigates how these technologies support the development of inclusive, engaging, and adaptive organizational environments. Using a bibliometric review of Scopus and Web of Science databases, the analysis employs VOS viewer and Biblioshiny to map co-authorship networks, keyword co-occurrences, and thematic evolution. The findings reveal five major thematic clusters: AI-enhanced employee engagement, VR-based immersive training, ethical and responsible AI use, VR-supported hybrid workplace management, and the integration of emotional intelligence through AI tools. The review highlights a growing adoption of VR for onboarding, team building, and experiential learning, while AI is increasingly used for sentiment analysis, personalization, and employee experience design. The study also identifies gaps in the existing literature, particularly the limited integration of AI and VR within broader cultural development frameworks. A key contribution of this research is its synthesis of fragmented evidence, directly linking AI and VR adoption to workplace culture transformation rather than solely operational outcomes. Emerging concepts such as AI-driven empathy development and VR-facilitated diversity training further underscore the technologies’ potential. The study offers practical insights for managers, HR practitioners, and technology strategists seeking to build future-ready organizational cultures.
