BACKGROUND:

Logbooks are an essential component of medical education at all levels, playing a key role in developing the professional competencies of medical doctors. However, despite their many advantages, they also present certain limitations. This study aimed to explore the perspectives of gifted medical doctors on the effectiveness and limitations of logbooks in enhancing clinical education.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

This cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study was conducted in 2023-2024 on 103 gifted medical doctors. Data were collected using a researcher-designed questionnaire that covered demographic information as well as the effectiveness and limitations of logbooks. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 22, employing both descriptive statistics and inferential tests.

RESULTS:

The mean score of gifted medical doctors’ perspectives on logbooks was 115.33 ± 12.29, which was below the average benchmark of 132. There were no statistically significant differences in perspectives on the effectiveness and limitations of logbooks based on demographic variables ( P > 0.05). Linear regression analysis showed that age was the only significant predictor of Logbook questionnaire scores ( P = 0.029), while other variables such as sex, Grade Point Average (GPA), and gifted program membership were not significantly associated.

CONCLUSION:

These findings suggest that, from the perspective of gifted medical doctors, logbooks are insufficient in meeting their clinical educational needs.
