Experimental research on the detection technology of illegal migration
Ákos Érdős, Ágoston Restás, József BallaIn the last decade, illegal migration was one of the most serious challenges facing both the European Union and its member states, such as Hungary. In addition to physical checks, the use of technology-supported check methods has become increasingly important in law enforcement practice over the past decades. This experimental research aimed to investigate the applicability of the MMD01 detector. A usability test has been carried out in Hungary between November 2023 and January 2024. Results suggest that the detector can be used with high reliability in law enforcement practice. In most cases (64.8%), it gave a correct signal. The accuracy of the measurements was significantly (p < 0.001) affected by wind. Other factors, such as precipitation, temperature, and the type of checked vehicles, do not influence the accuracy of the detector. The detector checks took significantly less time compared to control checks.
