EXPERIMENTAL DETERMINATION OF TIME AND NUMBER OF PERSONNEL FOR PERFORMING VARIOUS TYPES OF WORK AT A FIRE
Shamil Osmanov, Valery Klyuj, Dmitriy Zav'yalovThe article presents the results of an experimental determination of the time and number of personnel required to perform various types of work at a fire. The study was conducted as part of the research project to develop a training manual on modern firefighting tactics (R&D «RTP Handbook») in accordance with the R&D Plan of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for 2025-2027. Experimental studies were conducted from April 15, 2026, to May 15, 2026, in fire departments (14 territorial bodies of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia). Timing was performed continuously using a hand-held stopwatch under conditions close to real operational activities. Actual time indicators were determined for laying hose lines of various diameters, placing fire trucks on water sources, opening doors and building structures, working with nozzles, and other operational and tactical actions. A comparative analysis of the obtained data with previously known reference standards was conducted. It was found that for a number of tasks (laying small-diameter hose lines, installing a fire truck on a hydrant), the time required to complete the work was reduced by more than half, due to improved firefighting equipment and tools. At the same time, an increase in the time required to penetrate metal roofing and plank floors was recorded, due to the increasingly complex design of modern buildings and the use of high-strength materials. Standard personnel requirements for operating hand-held, combination, and universal nozzles (50 and 70) in various conditions were clarified. The results obtained have practical significance for updating firefighting supervisor reference materials, optimizing force and resource calculations, and improving the professional training of fire and rescue unit personnel.
