Oxypyriporphyrin (OxyPyP) provides an unusually large N ₄ coordination cavity. A six-coordinate Fe(

iii

) complex with mixed neutral/anionic axial ligands adopts a high-spin state, whereas the bis-neutral-ligated analogue shows a low-spin state.
