Examination of YouTube Videos on Lamina Preparation Techniques Using the DISCERN Scale
Tuba Şenocak, Alper Özdoğan, Furkan Karataş Objective: This study assesses the quality of information about lamina preparation processes found in YouTube videos. Methods: In February 2023, it was posted on the social media site YouTube. A search was conducted using the term "lamina preparation." The top 100 videos with the most views were listed as a result of this search. After that, 60 videos were examined using the predetermined standards. After seeing the videos, two impartial researchers assessed and graded them using the DISCERN scale and additional standards. The collected data were statistically analyzed using descriptive and frequency analyses and the Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and Fischer exact tests. Results: Mann-Whitney U test results showed statistically significant differences in the scores made by the two researchers in the DISCERN scale evaluations (P<.001). Kruskal-Wallis analyses according to the content quality of the videos, total number of views, viewing rates, and DISCERN scale scores revealed significant differences between the variables (P<.05).Conclusion: Professionals should use caution when evaluating the informational value of YouTube videos. Keywords: DISCERN, lamina, YouTube.
