Evaluation of the Effect of Modified Silicone Insoles Versus Conventional Silicone Insoles on Pain in Calcaneal Spur Treatment: A Retrospective Clinical Study

Aim: Aim of this study was to compare the post-treatment clinical outcomes of conventional silicone insoles and modified silicone insoles in patients diagnosed with calcaneal spur.Methods: The files of 140 patients diagnosed with calcaneal spur between 1.1.2022 and 1.4.2025 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into two groups: those using conventional silicone insoles (n = 70) and those using modified silicone insoles (n = 70). Both groups were compared regarding age, sex, body mass index (BMI), pre- and post-treatment visual analog scale (VAS) scores, duration of pain regression, and treatment response rate. Results: No significant differences were found between groups in demographic characteristics (p > 0.05). The mean post-treatment VAS score was 3.38 ± 1.48 in the modified insole group and 6.14 ± 1.68 in the conventional group, with both groups showing significant improvement compared to baseline (p < 0.05). However, pain scores were significantly lower in the modified insole group (p < 0.05). The mean pain regression period was 19.17 ± 6.34 days in the modified group and 29.42 ± 3.55 days in the conventional group (p < 0.05). The treatment response rate was 90% in the modified insole group and 55.7% in the conventional group, showing a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Compared with conventional silicone insoles, the modified silicone insole provides superior pain control and faster recovery in the treatment of calcaneal spur. This method represents cost-effective, and patient-friendly approach within conservative treatment options.
