Evaluation of sensorial properties and in-use tolerance of Venusia sunscreen

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can cause acute effects, such as sunburn and erythema, and DNA damage that may lead to skin cancers, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. Chronic exposure also accelerates photoaging, causing pigmentation changes, wrinkling, and skin fragility. Sunscreens are one of the most effective and widely recommended strategies for photoprotection. Venusia Sun Unseen Sunscreen is formulated for broad-spectrum UV protection with favorable cosmetic attributes. Sensorial properties are critical for consumer acceptance and regular sunscreen use. This study aimed to evaluate the sensorial properties and in-use tolerance of Venusia Sun Unseen in Indian men and women.
Materials and Methods:
In this single-center, single-arm, 15-day interventional study, 55 participants representing normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive skin types applied approximately 0.5g of the sunscreen daily to the face, 30 minutes before sun exposure. Assessments were conducted at baseline (Day 1) and at the end of the study (Day 15). Sensorial properties (spreadability, tactile feel, absorbability, and white cast) were assessed via a consumer feedback questionnaire. In-use tolerance was evaluated clinically using the modified Draize scale. Adverse events (AEs) and product compliance were recorded.
Results:
All participants completed the study with 90% compliance. High user satisfaction was reported for all sensorial attributes: 100% for ease of spreadability and absorption, and 96.36% for tactile feel and minimal white cast. No erythema or edema was observed on clinical evaluation. Three mild, self-limiting AEs were reported (burning sensation of the eyes in two participants and watering of the eyes in one participant), and no serious adverse events occurred.
Conclusion:
Venusia Sun Unseen demonstrated favorable sensorial properties and good in-use tolerance across diverse skin types, including sensitive skin. Its acceptability and tolerability may support consistent use and effective photoprotection in routine practice.
