Evaluation Interdisciplinary Communication Between Departments of Prosthodontics and Periodontology
Duygu Taşkın, Ravza Eraslan Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the multidisciplinary treatment relationship between the two specialties of Dentistry, Departments of Periodontology and Prosthodontics, by examining consultation request notes between the two departments. Methods: In this study, consultation request notes of 2763 patients who received treatment at our University Faculty of Dentistry were examined. All notes were retrospectively analyzed and divided into categories. The consultation request notes of 1655 patients from the Department of Periodontology (DPe) to the Department of Prosthodontics (DPr) and the consultation request notes of 1107 patients from DPr to DPe were evaluated. The obtained data were statistically analyzed using Pearson's Chi-Square test in IBM SPSS V23. Multiple comparisons were made with Bonferroni Correction. Results: The highest number of requests for consultation from DPe to DPr was due to “Removal of fixed restorations (n=451; 27.3%)” and the highest number of requests from DPr to DPe was “Phase 1 periodontal treatment (n=433; 39.1%)”. It was observed that most patients for whom consultation was requested were women (P<,001).Conclusion: This study determined the most common reasons for consultation requests between DPr and DPe which was the most prevalent. The conclusion was reached that the expertise of the other department was sought for problems that could not be solved by the first department. Keywords: Consultation, multidisciplinary treatment, prosthodontics, periodontology
