Fei Yu, Ryan L. Urquhart, Selina Sharmin, Siobahn D. Grady

ABSTRACT

Canvas, a learning management system (LMS), has been widely adopted by academic institutions across North America. Despite its robust features, the user experience with Canvas varies significantly. This study examines the design of a Canvas course website, providing evidence‐based guidance for creating user‐centered LMS interfaces. The findings aim to enhance the user experience by addressing issues such as information overload, user control, and accessibility. Design principles and recommendations generated from this study are crucial for our institution‐wide adoption of Canvas, promoting a seamless and supportive learning environment.
