Abstract

A Survey of Research Interests in the RG as a Basis for Modeling Decisions within the HisQu Project. The development of digital research data infrastructures requires a close integration of computational modeling and historical scholarship. The project „Forschungsdateninfrastruktur Historische Quellen“ (HisQu), or „Research Data Infrastructure for Historical Sources“, aims to make the „Repertorium Germanicum“ (RG) more accessible for large-scale studies through semantic modeling and enrichment. The ontology, already partially developed, will be guided not only by theoretical considerations, but also by actual research needs. To this end, a survey was conducted within the research community (38 responses), the results of which are presented in this paper. The analysis combines quantitative frequencies with a qualitative clustering of open-ended responses. The most in-demand information concerns persons, benefices, networks, and career trajectories; many studies span multiple pontificates and regions, with a focus on the 15th century. Desired further developments of the RG online platform center on usability, visualization options, digital analysis tools, entity identification, and linkage to authority data. Finally, priorities for further work on the RG ontology have been identified: aligning the modeling with the needs of the research community, integrating an adaptive model architecture for collaborative knowledge curation, streamlining the modeling process for more efficient querying, and closing existing modeling gaps.
