Abstract

PRIMARY AIM: Assess how many gallbladder polyps diagnosed on US are cholesterol polyps on histological report

SECONDARY AIM: Assess

Length of follow up before surgery

Rate of growth of polyps

Number of US performed before surgery

Indication for surgery in cholesterol polyps diagnosed on US (Symptomatic/Asymptomatic)

Retrospective analysis

Starting point: identification of patients who had cholecystectomy for GB polyps

Patients who underwent surgery at RFH and patients with acceptable parameters were selected

PRIMARY AIM: Of 66 patients operated for polyps, 52 were cholesterol polyps

SECONDARY AIM: Mean duration of surveillance before surgery: 33.96 months

Mean rate of growth of CP per year: 0.61 mm/year

Mean Number of US before surgery: 2.96 with a median of 2

1) Are UK guidelines properly followed? no

2) Do we need to revise the guidelines? significant number of GB cholesterol polyps leading to unnecessary surgery
