Enhancing the Durability of Antibacterial Properties on Cotton Fabrics via MCT ‐β‐ CD /Tea Polyphenol Inclusion Complexes

ABSTRACT

The growing demand for sustainable antimicrobial textiles has prompted the exploration of natural bioactive compounds. In this study, cotton fabrics were grafted with monochlorotriazinyl‐β‐cyclodextrin (MCT‐β‐CD) and subsequently loaded with tea polyphenols (TP). FT‐IR analysis confirmed the successful encapsulation of TP within the β‐CD cavity, ensuring stable binding. The treated fabrics exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis (89.90%) and Escherichia coli (85.08%) under optimized conditions (6 g/L TP, 50°C, 90 min). The antibacterial efficacy remained high after 30 washes, outperforming conventional treatments. This approach thus offers an effective and sustainable strategy for developing long‐lasting antibacterial textiles, outperforming conventional treatments in washing durability.
