Enhancing global prosthodontic research visibility through national specialty journals: Insights from the Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society
Unnati Gedam, Uday Kiran Uppada Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of the
Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society
(JIPS) toward enhancing global prosthodontic research visibility through a comprehensive evaluation of publication trends, citation dynamics, thematic distribution, and international authorship patterns over 21 years. A cross-sectional study was undertaken evaluating all articles published in JIPS from January 2005 to December 2025. Data were retrieved from the journal’s official archives. The key variables assessed included annual publication volume, study design, thematic domains, citation metrics, geographic distribution of authorship, and journal impact indicators. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and temporal trend evaluation. A total of 1238 articles were published during the study period. Original articles accounted for the largest number of publications (54.4%), followed by case reports/series (22%) and review articles (15%). The early publication trends (2005–2015) were focused on research related to complete denture and fixed partial denture, whereas the recent research (2016–2025) showed a substantial inclination toward implantology, digital prosthodontics, and biomaterial innovations. International authorship contributions increased progressively over the study period, particularly from America, Asia, Africa, and some European countries, reflecting the journal’s expanding global reach. Citation performance improved substantially following key indexations in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The journal demonstrated a steady growth in the impact metrics, including impact factor, SCImago Journal Rank, and quartile rankings. National specialty journals like JIPS play a pivotal role in enhancing global research visibility by promoting region-specific research dissemination, improving accessibility through indexations, and aligning with contemporary and emerging scientific advancements in prosthodontics.
