Engagement
Laura TunbridgeAbstract
After the Second World War, a number of institutions were founded to support chamber music performance and increase audiences. Festivals that bring musicians together to have continued to flourish. The networks created through such events have helped sustain musical careers and performance traditions. University residencies have become a further means of supporting chamber-music engagement. Amateur chamber musicians have also established international networks to connect with each other. Because of economic challenges, the decline of music education in schools, and a desire to diversify the repertoire, residencies and festivals have been rethought to better engage contemporary audiences and encourage young musicians.
