Energy Absorption of Interpenetrating Polymer Network Elastomers and Foams

Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) elastomers and foams composed of polyurethane (PU) and epoxies were prepared by the simultaneous technique. Fillers and plasticisers were incorporated by random batch mixing. Enhanced energy absorbing abilities were demonstrated by the elastomers as indicated by the dynamic mechanical spectroscopy results (broad and high tan $dL behaviour as a function of temperature). This was reflected in the mechanical and acoustical energy absorption of the foams. The effect of fillers and plasticisers was mixed.
