Endoscopic Management of Postoperative Leaks and Complications of Bariatric Surgery

Xiaoxi Feng

Abstract

Bariatric and metabolic surgery remains the most effective treatment for patients with obesity. While these surgeries are generally very safe with low risk profiles, major complications can occur, causing significant morbidity. Endoscopy plays a burgeoning role in their management, as novel technologies and techniques have been adopted from the treatment of other disease processes. In many of the scenarios discussed, it is critical for first-line treatment and can be definitive. This review aims to provide an overview of endoscopic strategies for complications after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and gastric banding.
