Enantioselective Tropolone Diels-Alder Reaction with Alkynals

The enantioselective tropolone Diels–Alder reaction with alkynals was developed using Jørgensen-Hayashi catalysts. Series of highly functionalized bicyclo[3.2.2] ring structures were constructed in one step with good yield and up to 93% enantioselectivity. This opens up new avenues for future research on both tropolone Diels–Alder chemistry, and the iminium catalysis of ynals.
