This chapter examines the unique challenges and contributions of veterans transitioning into academia, focusing on strategies to empower them within higher education institutions. Veterans bring value skills, leadership abilities, and diverse perspectives that enhance the academic community, yet they often encounter structural and cultural barriers during their transition. The chapter discusses the critical role of support systems, such as mentorship programs, veteran resource centers, and culturally competent faculty, in facilitating veterans’ academic success. By addressing issues like credentialing, cultural adaptation, and bias, the chapter offers practical recommendations for creating inclusive academic environments that recognize and leverage veterans’ strengths, ultimately fostering their educational and personal growth.
