Emotional Intelligence Fuels Thriving in Leadership

Marcy Levy Shankman

ABSTRACT

Maya Angelou once said people forget what you do or say but not how you make them feel. In her eloquent ways, Angelou reminds her readers how emotions have deep and long‐lasting influence on others. Researchers and scholars in neuroscience, social science, and psychology have all identified ways in which emotions impact thoughts, decisions, and behaviors, mental and physical health, self‐conception, and interpersonal relationships. Thus, it is only natural (literally) to consider how emotionally intelligent leadership offers a model for thriving in leadership.
