Electrospun Ceramic Micro/Nanofiber Composites for Environmental Applications

Minh-Ky Nguyen

Abstract

Environmental pollution, including industrial effluent, airborne particulates, and organic pollutants, is a growing concern for many ecosystems and human well-being. The development of effective and sustainable clean-up agents is a pressing need to address these emerging problems. This chapter highlights recent advances in electrospun ceramic-based micro/nanofiber composites for environmental applications, with particular emphasis on catalysis, filtration, and pollutant degradation. The specific features of ceramic fibers, such as large surface area, porosity, as well as good thermal and chemical stability, can improve their performance in water and air purification systems. Recent advances in multifunctional composites can expand their applications to include photocatalytic removal, heavy metal adsorption, organic and dye removal, oil-water separation, etc. Overall, this chapter provides a comprehensive overview of sustainable pathways for producing high-performance ceramic fiber materials tailored for environmental remediation.
