Electron-diffraction analysis of solidified CH4−O2 mixtures

S. I. Kovalenko, A. A. Solodovnik

The structure of solidified methane–oxygen mixtures is studied by the transmission electron diffraction technique. It is shown that in the given system there is practically no solubility in the solid phase. Analysis of the electron-diffraction patterns obtained showed that diffusion is appreciably suppressed in layers which constitute a mechanical mixture of the two components. This results in the recrystallization process being inhibited and the fine-grained or amorphous state being retained up to high temperatures.
