Abstract

The interest and relevance of the electrochemistry of complex compounds in non-aqueous solutions are driven by a number of factors. The advances achieved to date in the synthesis of organic compounds in aqueous and aqueous-organic media allow for a more detailed examination of the effects accompanying the discharge of particle complexes with an organic ligand. Electrochemical synthesis allows for the production of known compounds with new, useful properties. The method being studied simplifies the synthesis of known compounds and, more importantly, enables the synthesis of compounds that are otherwise impossible to obtain. In this study, the electrochemical synthesis of copper chelates in non-aqueous media was investigated using polarization, capacitance measurements, IR, NMR spectrometry, and electron microscopy. The electrochemical synthesis of copper chelates was carried out in an electrolyzer with a dissolving anode. An asymmetric alternating current was used to prevent adhesion to the anode. The obtained results confirm that voltammetry and capacitance measurements were used to determine the adsorption of citric acid on the surface of a solid graphite electrode. Electron microscopy was used to determine the composition of the target copper chelate product. A donor-acceptor mechanism for the electrochemical reaction of synthesizing copper chelate based on citric acid is proposed. It was determined that electrochemical synthesis of copper chelate not only increases process selectivity but also produces complexes with a specified oxidation state of the complexing atom. The results of the study revealed the feasibility of producing complex compounds of biometals by electrochemical synthesis using asymmetric alternating current, which can be used as chelated fertilizers in crop production and feed additives in livestock farming.
