Effects of Antibacterial Textile Materials on the Mental Health of Anxiety Patients: Tactile and Breathability Optimization for Anxiety Relief

Xia Shen

Abstract

Objective

This study investigates how antibacterial textile materials' physical properties (tactile sensation and breathability) affect users' psychological well-being, with specific focus on their potential to alleviate anxiety symptoms, emotional disorders, and stress responses, while establishing an empirical basis for developing textiles that promote both physical and mental health.

Subjects and Methods

A comprehensive study was conducted with 150 participants, including subgroups with pre-existing anxiety conditions. Six types of antibacterial textiles with varying properties were evaluated using physiological measurements (skin temperature, moisture management) and psychological assessments, including the Textile Comfort Perception Scale, Hamilton Anxiety Scale, and Perceived Stress Questionnaire. Participants wore standardized garments under controlled conditions while providing real-time comfort and psychological evaluations.

Results

Materials with optimal breathability (air permeability >85 mm/s) and soft tactile features (smoothness score >4.2) increased comfort by 45% and reduced anxiety symptoms by 30%. Physiological data showed materials maintaining skin temperature within 33.5-34.5°C and humidity below 15% correlated with significant stress reduction (p<0.01). Participants with anxiety disorders reported 40% improvement in emotional stability when using optimized textiles.

Conclusions

Antibacterial textiles' tactile-breathability properties significantly influence users' mental health by reducing anxiety and stress. These findings provide crucial insights for designing functional textiles that integrate mental health considerations, particularly beneficial for individuals with emotional disorders.
