Beyza Nur Açıcı, Fatma Dinç, Sultan Can
The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of educating nursing students on global climate change awareness and environmental attitude levels using crossword puzzles. This one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study was conducted between February 2024 and June 2024 with 302 nursing undergraduate students in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades at a nursing school in the Western Black Sea Region of Türkiye. A six-session face-to-face education program with a crossword puzzle on global climate change and environmental health was implemented for nursing students. Data collection tools consisted of “Introductory Information Form”, “University Students' Awareness Scale on Global Climate Change” and “Environmental Attitude Scale” and were applied before and after the education. Descriptive statistics and dependent sample t-test were used to evaluate the data. The mean posttest score of the students’ global climate change awareness level (2.68±0.35) was significantly higher than the mean pre-test score (2.18±0.31) (p=0.000). Similarly, the mean post-test score of nursing students’ environmental attitude (65.91±8.34) was significantly higher than the mean pre-test score (59.16±5.13) (p=0.000). The education given to nursing students with crossword puzzles as one of the innovative learning techniques was effective in increasing their global climate change awareness and environmental attitude levels.
