Effect of the electron–phonon interaction on the properties of strong paramagnets

A. A. Povzner, A. A. Timofeev

A theory describing the effect of spin fluctuations on the system of electrons and phonons in strong paramagnets is developed. The renormalization due to spin fluctuations, of the electron–phonon corrections to the electronic and phonon spectra of the materials studied is analyzed with the help of an expression derived for the free-energy functional. The possible mechanisms for singularities in the effect of the electron–phonon interaction on the magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity, and modulus of elasticity of strong paramagnets (for the example of Pd and Nb3Sn) are discussed on the basis of the approach developed.
