Effect of the ASSURE Model on Learning Selected Floor Exercise Skills in Artistic Gymnastics

Thaer Talib Salman Khudair

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the ASSURE instructional model on learning selected floor exercise skills in artistic gymnastics among students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. The study was motivated by the observed weakness in learning certain floor exercise skills and the variation in students' skill performance levels under conventional teaching methods. The researcher employed an experimental design with two equivalent groups (experimental and control) using pre- and post-tests. The sample consisted of 20 third-year students from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Basra, who were randomly assigned into two groups of 10 students each. The instructional program was implemented over eight weeks, with two educational units per week. The results revealed statistically significant improvements in favor of the experimental group in all floor exercise skills under investigation. The calculated t-values ranged from 6.018 to 7.649 at a significance level of p < 0.001, indicating the effectiveness of the ASSURE model in enhancing skill learning and performance. The study concluded that the ASSURE instructional model contributes to improving motor skill acquisition, enhancing skill performance, and promoting high-quality learning among students through a structured and learner-centered instructional environment.
