Hypovitaminosis D is prevalent among pregnant women and newborns. This study investigates the impact of low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels on the prognosis of neonates with acute respiratory distress syndrome. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 120 neonates with acute respiratory distress syndrome admitted between February 2019 and February 2021, compared with 120 healthy neonates born during the same period. Data collected included gender, age, Apgar scores, birth weight, and delivery method. The results indicated that neonates with acute respiratory distress syndrome had significantly lower gestational age, birth weight, and Apgar scores at 1 and 5 min compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis revealed that low gestational age, low birth weight, low Apgar scores, and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 deficiency were independent risk factors for acute respiratory distress syndrome (P < 0.05). Low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels are associated with a poorer prognosis in affected neonates and should be closely monitored in clinical practice.
