Effect of 5-Alpha Reductase on Serum Testosterone Level in Obese Women with PCOS

Background:
Insulin resistance and obesity have been connected to PCOS. Elevated 5α-reductase activity, a crucial enzyme that controls the peripheral conversion of testosterone to the most potent androgen, 5α-dihydrotestosterone, may be the cause of hyperandrogenism.
Objectives:
The aim of the Study is to try to find the cause of PCOS through an impact study the effect of 5α-reductase on serum testosterone level in obese women with PCOS and also study the relationships between this enzyme with other biochemical markers through evaluation of the 5α-reductase level in patients with PCOS.
Materials and Methods:
About 120 women between the ages of 18 and 40 were involved in the study. They were divided into four groups: 30 obese women, 30 non-obese women with PCOS, and 30 obese women, 30 non-obese who appear to be in excellent condition and are the control group. All women with thyroid illness, diabetes mellitus, smoking, hypertension, and hormonal medication usage were not included in these categories.
