Echo Chambers in Social Epistemology

Kyle van Oosterum

ABSTRACT

This article summarizes existing philosophical work on echo chambers and categorizes it into three related but distinct lines of inquiry. First, what are echo chambers? (The Conceptual Question). Second, what, if anything, is epistemically wrong with echo chambers? (The Evaluative Question). Third, what can be done about echo chambers? (The Ameliorative Question). The article concludes by situating talk of echo chambers within the context of broader debates in political philosophy.
