Durability of piles

Durability of piles is important because should they corrode to the extent of losing their load-bearing capacity, the implications on safety would be serious. The problems of each type of pile and the required protection are discussed in this chapter. Marine environment is the most corrosive natural environment and actual measurements showing the corroded state of such piles are included.
