Dual hardness flexible polyurethane foam cushions are of increasing interest to automotive designers as a means of improving safety and comfort.

Advances in process technology with the use of double or triple mixing heads dispensing foams of differing hardness into a suitably designed mould have led to the production of dual hardness cushions in one operation. ICFs all MDI (diisocyanato diphenylmethane) cold cure foam technology which offers many advantages over TDI/MDI systems (TDI, toluene diisocyanate), is already being used in Europe to produce seats by this method.

More recent developments in this technology and in dispensing equipment designed by Cannon have resulted in the ability to produce dual hardness front seat cushions from a single mixing head dispenser purely by changing isocyanate index.
