Dreaming the Next Generation Galactic Plane Survey with the Roman Space Telescope

Dante Minniti

Abstract

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is a NASA mission scheduled to launch at the end of year 2026. It is equipped with a Wide Field Instrument for high resolution imaging and low resolution spectroscopy that covers optical and near-IR wavelengths. This telescope would be mostly dedicated to complete large astronomical surveys, and a Galactic Plane Survey has been selected to be carried out during the first two years after launch. In this contribution we aim to summarize the steps being taken to define such a large survey of the Milky Way plane and bulge, and also to describe how to get involved.
