Does the Absence of Immunologic Surveillance Affect the Tumor Incidence in “Nude” Mice? First Recorded Spontaneous Lymphoma in a “Nude” Mouse
R. P. Custer, H. C. Outzen, G. J. Eaton, R. T. PrehnSummary
A homozygous “nude” mouse, killed when moribund, had a lymphoma, reticulum cell type B. These athymic “nude” mice, deficient in thymus-derived (T) cell-mediated immunologic responses, may provide a model for testing immunosurveillance and/or immunostimulation as active modulators of tumor regression or development. The apparent rarity of lymphoreticular tumors in this stock is of interest; time will tell whether it may elucidate the role of immune responses in oncogenesis.
