Discussion on Common Electromagnetic Emitters in Immunity Testing of Electromagnetic Compatibility for Medical Electrical Equipment

Wei Li, Bowen Hua

This paper analyzes common electromagnetic emitters encountered in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) immunity testing for active medical devices, with reference to international standards and FDA guidance requirements. It explores the interference risks and verification methods for medical equipment in complex electromagnetic environments. The study focuses on four typical types of electromagnetic emitters: RFID, WPT, electrosurgical devices, and 5G network equipments. Through case studies and standard comparisons, the paper provides medical device manufacturers with design considerations for immunity testing and risk management recommendations. It emphasizes the need to address EMC challenges posed by emerging wireless technologies during the R&D phase, based on the intended use environment of the device.
