Discrimination By and Against Religion

Abstract

Conflicts between religion and equality have been visible in the law and politics of many countries in recent years. One way to think about such conflicts is to categorize them as involving either claims of discrimination by religious people or claims of discrimination against them. In the first category are cases where religious actors seek exemptions from civil rights laws, and in the second category are situations where religious actors are being discriminated against. In both these categories, the law and politics of religious freedom are undergoing meaningful change. This volume collects cutting-edge scholarship on these important debates from leading specialists in Europe and North America.
