Disciplinary Discomfort: A Subaltern Speaks to (From Within) Composition
Dorell Oneil ThomasAbstract
As an author, I participate in writing studies as both a teacher and researcher, and this often means that my autobiographical stories shape the questions that I ask. As someone who was also born and raised in the Global South, I reflect on how my own experiences. discomfort, and desire to belong in writing studies come from confounding lived experiences with learning. In this tribute to Professor Janet Miller, which I am also calling one interpretation of my origin story, the author reflects on the tension that comes with knowing how learning happens—and can even thrive—in ethically questionable circumstances.
