Direct Visualization of Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation by Neonatal Point‐Of‐Care Lung Ultrasound
R. Ivanova, P. RadulovaABSTRACT
Congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) is usually assessed prenatally and further characterized postnatally with cross‐sectional imaging. Direct visualization by lung ultrasound may be limited when normally aerated lung overlies the lesion. We report a term (39 weeks' gestation) neonate with a prenatally suspected CPAM in whom bedside point‐of‐care ultrasound directly demonstrated a peripheral heterogeneous multicystic lesion in the left lung. This case illustrates the characteristic sonographic appearance of a pleural‐accessible CPAM and highlights lung ultrasound as a rapid, radiation‐free adjunct for bedside assessment while emphasizing that a normal ultrasound examination cannot exclude a deeper congenital lung malformation.
