Digital meter technology and customer water savings: a regional case study

ABSTRACT

Digital meter technology has been successfully implemented throughout Australia to detect water leaks behind the meter (customer end use) as well as in the water supply network. Barwon Water has been trialling a variety of low-cost digital meter technologies with a range of customer sectors, such as residential, business and agricultural customers over the last decade, which have demonstrated high customer value in conjunction with sustainable water/water efficiency initiatives. These trials have resulted in millions of litres of water being saved each year through early leak detection and repair, reducing water losses and costs to customers.
