Digital Libraries in the Age of AI: Opportunities and Challenges

Digital libraries have helped enhance users' access to a vast amount of knowledge. Project Gutenberg is often credited as the first digital library to introduce eBooks in 1971 ¹ . However, the digital library research became mainstream with the NSF/DARPA/NASA digital library initiative [Griffin 1998]. Digital library research is not limited to the digitization of physical material to provide web access. It also incorporates information extraction, retrieval, organization, and management of multimodal material.
