The Other Eyes Project was established to explore the creation of avatars in an immersive reality environment using archaeological data to explore the past. An integral part of this endeavor was to review ethics regarding the excavation and interpretation of human skeletal remains and the digital representation of past people. We examine the specific context of Romano-British archaeology in terms of the history and development of archaeological practice in England and the role of public archaeology in the formation of identity and white ethnonationalism while discussing complex issues of stakeholders and understanding intersectional identity in the past and present. We describe this process and introduce an alternative approach for ethical research in archaeology: creating a diverse community of researchers and drawing from anarchist methods.
