Dielectric-constant anomalies of liquid ortho/para hydrogen mixtures

The dielectric properties of liquid ortho/para hydrogen mixtures are considered in terms of the Onsager–Böttcher model, generalized to the case of an ellipsoidal cavity with allowance for the quantum contributions to the polarization. The excess dielectric constant δε (relative to pure p-H2), found as a function of the temperature and the composition, is in good agreement with the experimental data. An analysis is made into the causes of the observed anomalies in the behavior of δε (T, x).
