Diagnosis and management of giant cell arteritis
Laura Bonelli, Anthony C. ArnoldAbstract
Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is the most common form of vasculitis affecting patients above the age of 50. Over the past few decades, our understanding of the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and treatment of the disease has increased tremendously. We now recognize that there is more than just the compromise of the temporal artery and its branches. Advances in technology and immunology have led to new diagnostic imaging methods and more targeted treatments with fewer side effects. The aim of this review is to summarize the advances in the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of GCA.
