The article presents the results of the study of the development of universities in the Arctic zone and their role in the implementation of the relevant regional policy of the Russian Federation. The main participants in the geopolitical confrontation in the Arctic, the main factors determining their strategic interests and priority areas of the relevant state policy are identified. Infographics of territorial disputes, rivalry between countries in matters of expanding spheres of influence in the Arctic region, as well as the distribution of hydrocarbon reserves between countries are presented
