Development of the Cyclodextrin-Based Chemosensors Using Nanotechnological Methods

Elif Esra Altuner
Cyclodextrins (CDs) are naturally occurring ring-shaped oligosaccharides that can bind a variety of chemicals. Due to this feature, they play a crucial role in chemical and biological sensors. New sensors developed using nanotechnological methods have the potential to offer higher sensitivity, selectivity, and stability. Nanotechnological methods have several advantages. These advantages include the development of smaller and more sensitive sensors, enhanced sensor functionality and selectivity, and reduced sensor manufacturing costs. Some examples of the CD-based chemosensors developed using nanotechnological methods are metal nanoparticle-based sensors, semiconductor nanowire-based sensors, and molecularly imprinted polymer-based sensors. In this review article, each sensor model will be explained and discussed with detailed references. The CD-based chemosensors developed using nanotechnological methods have significant application potential in various fields. These sensors can be used in areas such as the detection of environmental contaminants, food safety, and drugs. analysis, detection of biological and chemical warfare agents, and medical diagnosis.
