Development of a Recovery-Oriented Screening Tool for Psychosocial Needs in Inpatient Psychiatric Settings
Kaylyn Brown, Olivia Dixon, Amy Doka-Moore, Jena Whiteside, Shu Jun Selina Fan, Shu-Ping ChenDischarge planning in inpatient psychiatric settings often prioritizes medical stabilization over psychosocial recovery needs. To address this gap, this study developed the Inpatient Recovery-Oriented Psychosocial Needs Assessment (IROPNA) - a practical, recovery-oriented screening tool designed to identify key determinants of successful community reintegration. Using a six-stage process involving literature reviews, framework development, and clinician feedback, the project established the Personal Recovery Framework for Community Integration as its theoretical foundation. The IROPNA promotes patient-centred discharge planning by identifying psychosocial, cultural, and environmental needs. Future research will evaluate its psychometric properties and clinical utility within inpatient mental health settings.
